What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia is an STI caused by bacteria, which can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) if left untreated.
PID affects the organs in the pelvis and can lead to infertility in men and women.
Chlamydia is most often symptomless and is the most common STI in the world.
What are the symptoms?
Over 70% of women and 50% of men don’t have symptoms.
However in those that do develop symptoms, you may experience:
- pain when urinating
- unusual discharge from the vagina, penis or anus
- in women, pain in the abdomen, bleeding during or after sex, and bleeding between periods
- in men, pain and swelling in the testicles
What's the treatment?
Chlamydia is easily treated with a course of antibiotics.
It is important to complete the full course and for all partners to be treated.
What do we test?

A urine sample is all we need. We also test for Gonorrhoea and Trichomoniasis as part of the same test.
